Q. Care Guide: Knitwear
By caring for your knits gently you will be able to make them last longer and keep them as good as new. Follow the tips detailed below to care for your knitted UNIQLO goodies such as our Souffle Yarn Knit, Premium Lambswool and Cashmere ranges.
How do I wash my knitwear? To extend the wear of your knits, we recommend to wash them as little as possible (wearing layers underneath will help!). Wool is naturally odour resistant so you should only wash when dirty, and other knitwear every four to five wears unless dirty sooner. Always refer to the inner care label for your garment's specific instructions, however we have included some general instructions for you below.
With your knitwear we recommend washing them gently by hand with a light, wool-friendly detergent. Do not wring the item dry, but gently squeeze the water out and lay it flat on a towel or mesh drying rack to dry. The gentler you are in the process, the better it will keep its shape. Please ensure you reshape the sweater when it is damp by slightly tugging it into the the previous size. If you notice any difference in the shape after washing, ironing and steaming will open up the fibres as well as washing again and allow you to shape the garment a bit better.
Why does my knit pill? Pilling is a natural reaction of the material from any friction that can occur during general wear or in the wash. This may occur in areas like armpits, crotch, where your bag sits on your shoulder or where a belt may rub. To remove pilling you can simply use a fabric shaver, or carefully trim with scissors, as recommended on the care label.
